It may sound strange but a painter decorator needs to understand the different paint products and have an affinity with the way they flow onto the different surfaces as much as needing to be skilled in the actual paint application.
In the course of decorating the ceilings, walls and woodwork of a lounge, hallway, staircase or bedroom, sometimes over a period of days, paint can thicken up and, unless it is diluted appropriately as the job progresses, an unevenly painted and poor finish is almost inevitable.
Understanding the paint products is vital too. There are some paints that I just wouldn’t use. There are others that I would use without fail every time because I know I can rely on the high quality finish they produce consistently to the customer’s satisfaction. They flow on better, they cover better with a reasonable number of coats and afterwards the ceiling, wall or woodwork has a satisfying lustre that makes the job really worthwhile.
Knowing where to source painting and decorating supplies is vital. Every town has a supplier where most knowledgeable professionals will source their paint and decorating products. They will have good reasons relating to price, quality and ease of application for using that source rather than ones of which the general public may be more aware.
So, if you are planning to redecorate the ceilings, walls and paintwork of a hall, stairs, landing, lounge, bedroom or living room, I would strongly advise you to get the advice of a professional painter decorator who really understands paint products before spending your hard earned money on materials. Not only are you likely to make cost savings but you are also more likely to get a better paint product that will produce a better finish.
